Rare and Historic Acoustic Instruments from the Guitar Family.
Jim Forderer Displays and talks about most of Great Collection
at the 2007 LA GUITARRA CALIFORNIA FESTIVAL
PART 1 (of 3) includes: CITHARA , OUD, LUTE, VIHUELA, BAROQUE GUITAR,
HARPOLYRE.
some of the information provided in the video is historically wrong:
to say that Oud appeared in the middlenear east in 1500BC is completely hilarious, plus, the Ottomans never went to Spain, but, Arabs did along with the Amazigh.
Nice to see Pujol's Vihuela – my teacher Brendan played this instrument on 1960's Spain
None of these are guitars, they are stringed instruments, the actual guitar is pretty recent. Its like calling a violin a guitar.
where is sound ?
a H U G E thumbs up for uploading this video! a lot of knowledge on the history of the evolution of the guitar. wish u could have played some of those, especially the 3 neck guitar.
Great collection! You might be interested in this secret of a lately expired grand maestro. See around minute 4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GBAeCCy3P0
broke guitar? … it looks in reasonable shape to me (LOL …sorry, dumb baroque joke that should never be said) … what a collection!
Real nice trip through the history of the great instrument.
I'm so jealous.
Thanks for showing us some of your collection. I have been researching the evolution and development of stringed instruments and I wonder about the ten stringed instrument mentioned in the Bible (Psalm 92:3) where it refers to singing praises "upon an instrument of ten strings". It would seem that plucked stringed instruments go back many thousands of years.
Ancient Greek kithara (guitar)?
Great collection ¡¡
Thank you for sharing the instruments and your knowledge.
That's very interesting and thank you very much for sharing
I've wonder how much valuable made in China acoustic guitars will be couple hundred years from now
What's the piece played during the bit where he talks about the Vihuela?
I'm an expert oud and lute player
cithara is mesopatamiam not african
I'd sure like to hear these instruments.
The Video opens with Pavana #6 by Luis Milan played by Andres Segovia..
what is the piece playing at the begining ? I think Julian Bream plays it. but whose piece is it can you tell ?
I remember getting to play these instruments at this festival and others. What an opportunity! Most things like this are locked behind glass as a piece of dead wood.
Very very interesting info.
I have a Roudhloff like that.
Jim Forderer, What a wonderful man and great contribution to all guitarists who want to know the history and instrumental linage of the guitar.
