Being able to read sheet music is a great skill that every guitar player should at least try to acquire. Reading on the guitar can be pretty difficult for some players. Many guitar players start trying to learn how to read sheet music only to get frustrated and quit. In this lesson we’ll take a look at the common elements you’ll come across when reading sheet music. I’ll also go into some more detail about the most important ones. Hopefully after this lesson, you’ll have a basic understanding of how to read sheet music on the guitar.

i printed out the fur elise on the second day of learning bcs i thought i can finally read and then i forgot how sharps and flats work on the guitar (piano is soo much easier)
now im back to square one 🙁

is there one because i want to learn guitar sheet music but i just want to skip all the sheet music and key signature and accidentals because i play like 5 instruments that read sheet music and it is really annoying because i cannot find one that just goes right to the guitar and notes itself

It is irritating how his voice drops off toward the end of a sentence. Can you keep an even volume to your voice through the whole sentence?

ron frey says:

@11:13 YOU ANSWERED MY NEXT QUESTION ! HOW TO KNOW WHERE TO PLAY THOSE NOTES HIGHER UP THE NECK ANYWHERE !!!!

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST EXPLAINED LESSONS ON READING MUSIC FOR GUITAT IVE EVER SEEN BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO
ITS TAKEN ME YEARS TO SNAP TO THIS.. YOU JUST SET A READING MONSTER LOOSE WHERE ARE MY FRANK ZAPPA BOOKS ?
OF COURSE IF YOU CAN HEAR THE MUSIC FIRST YOU CAN KNOW OH ITS PLAYED HIGHER REGISTER AND IT MIGHT NOT BE NOTATED WHICH STRING OR FINGER TO BE PLAYED THAT SAID YOU CAN HEAR AND FINGER THAT OUT FIND THAT NOTE THEN READ FROM THAT POSITION…

ron frey says:

I clicked on this and GREAT TEACHING LESSON ! I have had issues with position on where notes are on stave vs guitar neck
this video explained it well and had someone just shown me the simple part of e at 2nd fret of D string was first line and the f at first string of the first fret high string then I be a way better reader now… CRUCIAL STARTING INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS TO GRASP 3-5 min mark that small bit of information just broke a huge wall down for me I can now see where im to read at least in first position and all the way up to high e at 12th fret on high string. If I can figure how to do that automatically from any fret then I think I can break through my reading and finally be able to sight read on guitar. GREAT LESSON HUGE HUGE BREAKTHROUGH FOR ME THANK YOU !

Charles Currie says:

absolutely terrible video if you wanted to learn anything.

ÑövÅ says:

I just started learning the guitar and the only reason I understand this video is because of my previous piano knowledge xD this tutorial is kinda useless not gonna lie

Dandy Thimble says:

This was super cool. I am currently using TABS and have been for a while but have found it difficult to figure out the rhythm of each bit. This seems like it will be super useful to know.
